Patterns & Visual Universe
  • Before: Bantugraphy

The front design of the jacket is inspired by Bantugraphy , a Bantu writing system that originated in Gabon. This alphabet, composed of 27 symbols, translates into written signs the images, exclamations, and accents stemming from the daily life and spirituality of Bantu peoples.

Supported by promoters such as Mathieu Ngoungoulou and designed by Jean-Claude Maganga , Bantugraphy is now taught in Owendo, on the outskirts of Libreville. It embodies a strong cultural project: that of becoming a written heritage for Africa and a tool for academic research.

By incorporating these symbols into the Reine Ndjamba Jacket, Élisabeth Akaïa Kaï pays tribute to a living writing tradition, rooted in memory and turned towards the future.
  • Back: The Punu Mask
The back of the jacket features a large totemic pattern inspired by Punu masks, aesthetic and spiritual treasures from Gabon. These masks, painted with kaolin and engraved with mabinda (diamond-shaped scarifications), embody the wisdom of the ancestors and the link between the visible and the invisible.

A symbol of serenity, protection, and cosmological perfection, the Punu mask expresses the ideal of feminine beauty while recalling the power of traditional rituals. The nine scarified lozenges represent cosmogony: the central point, the creative principle, giving birth to the four cardinal points and the two primordial couples.

On the jacket, this sacred face becomes a graphic and contemporary icon , transforming an ancestral heritage into wearable art.
  • Palette & Style

Solar colors dominated by orange, contrasted with deep blacks and enriched with circular touches of yellow and pink. This interplay of hues expresses both the urban vitality of Libreville and the timeless warmth of Gabonese heritage.
  • Universe

The Reine Ndjamba Jacket is a visual manifesto: a dialogue between writing and mask , between language and spirituality , between heritage and modernity . It asserts the identity of committed African luxury, at the crossroads of art, memory and contemporary fashion.
